Interior plants transform any room in the home, there is a plant for any location provided there is at least a glimmer of natural light. The choice of plant is obviously a matter of personal choice but generally there are some plants that complement a contemporary scheme and some that suit traditional styles better. Most interior plants, particularly Palms, look good in almost any setting.

Some important things to think about when selecting plants to suit your home are:

Location: The environment in which you place your plant can be important. Don’t put plants too close to radiators or cold drafts. Whilst most house plants are tolerant of quite a wide range of conditions and light levels many will not like too much direct sunlight.

Growth Rate: Most indoor plants are relatively slow growing but if you do select a faster growing plant make sure that you allow room.

Pots and containers: Most people prefer to hide the plastic pot inside a container. Think about the shape, color, size and proportions of the container relative to the plant and your room; the right container really can make all the difference.

Grouping of Plants: House plants like garden plants can look stunning when arranged in mixed groups but consider how the color, size and form of the plants complement each other. Many house plants look fabulous when the same variety is grouped geometrically or at random in same place. This is particularly effective in contemporary designs.

Interior Setting:

Some plants look stunning when one or two are placed singly along a plain wall or in the corner. You have to choose the appropriate specie for the best effect. Creative use of hanging plant in interior creates lot of interest in the area, such as nooks, study room, kitchen or media room. A big blousy plant will make an unforgettable first impression in your entrance hall.

These are just a few ideas – the potential for using house plants to transform your home is limited only by your imagination.

The indoor environment may be 5 to 7 times more polluted than the exterior. Interior plants apart from looking good have been proven to have significant health and wellbeing benefits. This is because of two major effects:

Physical – the cleaning, purification and conditioning of the air we breathe;

Psychological – the very presence of plants has been shown to increase positive feelings and reduce feelings of anxiety, anger and sadness.

Apart from these; interior plants increase the humidity level, dampens the sound level, reduces the stress level and thus lifts the general mood of the occupants. These benefits are important in achieving a good and healthy indoor climate in the artificial environment of the workplace as well as the home.

People are much less stressed in greener environments. Scientific study shows, plants reduce the level of fatigue, coughing, headache and irritated eyes by up to 30%. Plants in interior, is the natural way to enhance the general work-place environment and image. It improves the sense of well-being of both customers and staff. Plants in the workplace not only enhance your corporate image but improve productivity and reduce absenteeism too.

From feng shui standpoint: plants allow you to harness beneficial energy. Placing plant in east and southeast sectors, enhance your wealth prospects. Being creative, you can place plant on counter or on window ledge in any washroom uplifts energy level of that particular area. Tall and healthy plants in foyer or in entrance area attract positive Chi or energy. However, plants are not recommended for Southwest, Northeast, North and Center sector.

Remember: Plants – is the most natural way of making any space nourishing, beautiful and functional.
